A Day in the Life of a Blogger/mom/student/homesteader

One of my favorite things about following blogs is when the blogger shares a typical day in their life. I mean, who wouldn’t love to be a fly on the wall in someone else’s life sometimes?

So I thought it might be fun to share a typical day in my life.

My life is pretty hectic and busy right now. I am wearing many many hats, so my days are broken into chunks of time devoted to each of my “hats”. What are my hats? Well I am a wife and a mother of 3. I am a home-share provider for an adult with developmental disabilities (that’s my day job), a student, and a blogger. Oh! and a homesteader.

So welcome to my chaos!

I decided to document my day the other day, so this is a fairly typical Monday.

5:30-6 am    Alarm goes off and I get up and get coffee. Enjoy my first cup in silence and check emails or favorite blogs.

Oh coffee! How I love thee!

6:30-7 am  Make lunches and check personal email.

7 am  Start waking up the kids. My eldest is a teenager and takes forever to wake up. Double checking backpacks, coordinating schedules and signing agendas for the day.

7:45 am  Send kids out to the bus then start waking Jane* to help her get ready for the day.

Off to the bus…

8:15 am Get myself dressed and made up for the day. Check on chickens and ducks.

8:30 am  Jane* and I hop into the car and start driving the 30 minutes to town. I take her in 5 days a week for her to attend a day program.Enjoy a peek into a typical day of life in my world as a blogger, mother, student, wife, homesteader and homeshare provider.

9 am  Get to town, drop Jane* off. Do any errands that need to be done in town.

10 am Get home get started on some school work. (I’ve been doing school online to learn how to be a medical transcriptionist)

11:30am  Take a break- during my break I usually switch laundry or do a minor chore/housework task. I also make some lunch so I can eat and study at the same time.

12:15pm    Eat lunch and back to school work!

2 pm   Back to school work or work on blog stuff.

2:45 pm Gabe is home from school so I make his snack and we chat and he does homework if he has some. We usually go outside and go in the garden for a bit and work in there. We check on the chickens and ducks while we’re out there. I also try and remember to take any photos of projects for the blog.

4pm   Girls are home from school and start on homework or play/hang out. I try and start making dinner.

5pm     Jump in the car and head to town to pick up Jane*.

6pm     I’m home and usually everyone is home so we eat dinner.

7pm     Pat goes to his fire practice (he is a volunteer firefighter for our local department) Kids and I hang out, or I work on blog stuff.

8pm    Try and convince younger two kids that it’s time for bed 🙂

9:30 pm  Remind Nyla (our eldest) to get ready for bed.

10pm   Get myself ready for bed. Read my current book (right now I’m reading The 4-Hour Workweek)

10:30 pm   Lights out and sleep time!

As I said in the beginning, this is a fairly typical Monday but every day is different depending on which activities the kids have etc.  I hope you enjoyed this little peek into our lives.

  • *Jane is a name I made up for the person I do homeshare with, in order to protect her privacy.
