I love Halloween! I really do. But, even as a kid it wasn’t just about the candy, I loved to dress up in costumes. And guess what? I still do!

For quite a few years I thought I “had to be a grown up” and just stick to dressing my kids up in cute and fun costumes,

But the last few years, hubby and I have had a blast dressing up in costume. The first year, our whole family did the Addam’s family (I so wish we had pictures of that one!) and the following year hubby and I were mad scientists (again no pictures!?!) and last year I was a hippy and hubby was a lumbersexual.

Just a little warning, while being very funny to some, this video is not explicit but it is very suggestive.

The last few years we have also had fun having an adult costume party which has been a blast.

Every year we end up doing a mix of borrowed, bought and homemade parts of costumes. For example in the above pic, the fireman suit was borrowed, the vampire dress was bought, and the pumpkin suit was homemade (can you tell? haha).

This year will be no different and although I won’t tell you yet what we are all dressing up as, I will share my favorite places to shop for good costumes and ideas.

  • Of course there is always Walmart or your local dollar store for some popular/generic costume ideas. We have used their resources several times ourselves. But don’t forget to check out thrift stores too for some unusual homemade costumes or just parts of an idea you have for your costume ie: plaid shirts, cheap belts and accessories.
  • Amazon has tons of costumes, decor (like fog machines and skeletons )and candy and basically all things Halloween. Or maybe you just want to stay in and watch a scary movie?
  • This site has an amazing array of sooooooo many costumes! Want to be Marty McFly? Or The Hulk or maybe one of the Village People?
  • And of course there is always Pinterest for amazing costume ideas! You can check out my Halloween inspiration board here

Are you a Halloween person? Do you love the dressing up part or are you all about the candy? What was your favorite costume as a kid?
